All our crew are highly trained. This means that you’ll get a great briefing on how to interact with the dolphins and what to expect prior to your journey. They’ll also give you safety instructions and other information to allow you to enjoy your experience. If you are new to snorkelling and use of a wetsuit your crew will be on hand to help you out.
This is a 1½ - 2 hour cruise, which includes ½ hour before for a full briefing, about 2 hours on the water (of which up to 1 hour is spent with the dolphins). We have modern vessels. Our main boat is a heated, covered, jet powered catamaran. It’s safer for you and the dolphins because there are no propellers. It’s also heated so after your swim you can warm up quickly in the cabin while enjoying a hot chocolate. A hot shower is available when we get back to the wharf.
We provide wetsuit masks and snorkel. You only have to bring you swimming costume and a towel.
It is not guaranteed that you will be able to swim with the dolphins, under some conditions viewing only is possible for the safety and wellbeing of passengers and dolphins. We do guarantee that you will see dolphins, otherwise you will have the opportunity to repeat the trip again free of charge until you do.
Gift Location:
Akaroa is ideally situated within one and a half hours of Christchurch International Airport. You can either drive yourself or catch one of the shuttles which operate daily between Christchurch city centre and Akaroa (not included in the price).
Gift Availability:
We operate up to 8 cruises per day from November to March and up to 4 in April and October and 1 per day from May to September. Cruises operate every day except Christmas Day.
Gift Restrictions:
Of course with only 10 swimmers allowed per vessel, it does mean that we are frequently sold out in advance, which makes it essential for you to book in advance.
The minimum age for dolphin swimming is 8 years.
In unsuitable weather conditions, sailings may be cancelled and you will be rebooked for another day.
